Indecision

Indecision

Drifting around the house,
not sure what to do.
I should do something positive.
I know I'll feel better
if I do.

It's around three o'clock.
I've not had any lunch;
nothing in the house to eat.
I've contemplated going to the shops
but am not really hungry.

I'd like a hug,
but I'm home alone.

I should go out;
I know I'll feel better
if I do.

Fresh air?
Food?
A hug?

I galvanise enough energy
to leave the house
.....and sit in the car.

I still haven't made a decision.

What should I do?

I could go for a walk.

I start to cry.

The moment for lunch has passed.
That narrows down the options.

The pull of a hug is greater than
the appeal of a walk.

I know where I'll go.

I put the keys in the ignition,
start the engine,
and start to drive.

  1. Thank you very much for this well-written post. I really enjoyed reading it! I recently published an article on my blog about indecision and its impact on society. If you are able, it would be great if you could read my post and let me know your thoughts! Thanks 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad you enjoyed this post.

I’ve read your article and the idea of trying to ensure the correct choice is made resonated with me. I have experienced fear of making the “wrong” choice in my career planning over the years. However, I don’t really believe there is one correct choice or a wrong choice. I now try and see choices as opportunities for me to experiment and learn, and not be too worried about the outcome. We don’t know what is going to happen in the future anyway, but I think if I don’t take action, I’ll never find out what could be. However, it’s not always easy to do!

  2. There are decisions in our life
we need to make and be sure
    when we know our priorities
we don’t feel then too obscure
as the time to act gets nearer
we can be feeling more secure
the road to healing is difficult
    good that you’ve taken action
it’s good that you have endured.
